Battle Creek Arrest Records: Jail, Inmate & Court Search

Local arrest-record check

BCPD provides arrest-record checks that cover arrests made by the Battle Creek Police Department. The requester must show photo identification.

An employer or government official must provide a signed consent form from the person whose record is being checked. The published fee is $15.

City response timeline

The city generally sends its initial FOIA response within five business days. It may grant the request, grant part and deny part, deny it, identify an already-public record or notify the requester of an extension of up to ten additional business days.

The initial response does not always include immediate production of a large video or document request.

Fees and deposits

If the estimated cost exceeds $50, the city provides a good-faith fee estimate and may require a deposit equal to half of the estimate before processing continues.

A required deposit must be paid within the city’s stated period or the request may be treated as abandoned.

Information available by telephone

The county states that public inmate information may be limited to whether the person is lodged and the listed bond amount.

Staff generally cannot disclose private medical details, protected classification information, confidential investigative information or unrestricted release-planning information.

What happens in district court

District-court arraignment is the first court appearance for a misdemeanor or felony. A judge or magistrate advises the defendant of the charge and determines the conditions and amount of bond.

Misdemeanor cases generally remain in district court. Felony cases continue through probable-cause and preliminary-examination stages before possible transfer to circuit court.

When to switch courts

A felony usually begins in the 10th District Court. If the defendant is bound over, the later arraignment, pretrial proceedings, plea, trial and sentencing occur in the 37th Circuit Court.

Search both courts when a felony arrest is several weeks old and the district-court result no longer shows the active stage clearly.

Inmate telephone service

Calhoun County uses ICSolutions for inmate telephone services. An existing ICSolutions telephone account can also be used when registering for video visitation.

• Inmates place outgoing calls;
• Ordinary calls may be monitored or recorded;
• Phone funds are separate from inmate trust funds;
• Use the current inmate identifier;
• Do not discuss witnesses, evidence or passwords.

Video-visitation registration

1. Create or sign in to the ICSolutions account.
2. Register for visitation using accurate identity information.
3. Select the Calhoun County facility and correct inmate.
4. Schedule at least 48 hours in advance.
5. Save the appointment confirmation.
6. Confirm custody and eligibility before traveling.

Inmate-account deposits

The county lists the following deposit methods:

• Cash in person through the authorized facility process;
• Credit-card deposit by telephone at 866-345-1884;
• Online deposit through the service linked by the county jail page.

Verify the inmate name and identifier before submitting payment. Deposit, phone and visitation transactions may carry separate provider fees.

Regular personal mail

Regular inmate correspondence is processed at an off-site facility and then made viewable on inmate tablets.

Include the inmate’s complete name, correct identifier and the sender’s full return address.

Statewide criminal-history search

Michigan State Police ICHAT can be used when a broader public Michigan criminal-history search is needed. It is separate from Battle Creek Police, the jail roster and the court docket.
